LF India will focus on critical projects, including cloud-native technologies, telecommunications, Edge/IoT, blockchain, security, and AI applications. This initiative aims to create a thriving environment for startups, enterprises, and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) by providing essential resources and support.
The Linux Foundation has officially launched LF India, a new initiative designed to accelerate open source innovation across key technological domains in India. The announcement was made during KubeCon + CloudNativeCon India, highlighting the foundation’s commitment to driving open source development in the region.
India is a significant contributor to the global open source ecosystem, with nearly 200,000 developers participating in Linux Foundation-hosted projects. LF India seeks to be a "sandbox for innovation," offering incubation and training programs, meetups, and events specifically tailored for Indian developers to enhance their skills and participation in global open source projects.
With India’s developer community expected to become the world’s largest by 2028, supported by a robust digital public infrastructure grounded in open source technologies, LF India aims to leverage this growth. The goal is to contribute significantly to transformative technologies and support India’s burgeoning deep-tech startup landscape.
Arpit Joshipura, Head of LF India, stated, “LF India will focus on fostering local innovation with a global impact, building collaborative open source communities, and creating opportunities for pioneering projects.”
Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, emphasized, “LF India represents a major step forward in increasing global awareness and participation in open source. We are thrilled to collaborate with government leaders, enterprises, and developers to drive forward innovation.”
